Some people in enterprise teams are lead by one major motivation which is fear.
Normally the fear to loose the job. The very strange thing behind is, that being driven by fear, they make errors which could result in receiving a pink slip. If you're afraid of loosing your job, you definitely work at the wrong place: You should be proud about what you do and have your mind free. You should feel happy doing the things you do. Though this sounds like a 1-Cent-wisdom, non-Germans wouldn't believe, how many people here always complain about their jobs without changing the personal situation.
One might mention Grove's "only the paranoid survives", but this might only be somewhat correct if you need to defend industrial espionage and lead a global enterprise in the position of a CEO.
As an IT-employee, your only paranoia should go into the direction of not using the methodologies and tools that make your work 100% efficient.
